THE BIG TEN INCH ROCKWELL

The barn fresh 10 X 20 lathe. I was huffing carb cleaner while unloading it but the can gives you an idea of the size.

It needs a 3/4 HP motor. I tried to snag the one off my wifes washing machine but she got pissed and said the kids need clean clothes. Man, I think she needs to get her priorities in order...

Fortunately it uses standard V belts so I won't have to scrounge for any odd belts. I'm thinking this type of variable speed is going to be the bomb as far as belt drive lathes go.

A view of the headstock. That weird little knurled deal under the cover is the spindle lock for the back gear. It rotates around and drops into a hole which locks the spindle for direct drive. The little black knob on the front pulls out to engage the back gear. Kind of convoluted compared to South Bends...

A shot of the carriage. Usual stuff, cross feed long feed, thread dial and half nut. It does have brass way wipes which is nice but the back of the apron is open

A shot of the back. That's the tailstock in the back of the chip tray. The bike in the background is a Russian army motorcycle. I was on something a little heavier than carb cleaner when I bought that....
